Best AI tools for contractors

For most small trades businesses, Jobber is the best all-in-one pick: it handles quotes, scheduling, and invoices, and it offers an AI receptionist add-on for calls you can’t take. Housecall Pro is a strong alternative with a price book and job costing on its starter plan, and Upfirst is the simple choice if you only need your phone answered.

1. Jobber: best all-in-one for quotes and scheduling

Why it stands out. Jobber covers online booking, scheduling, quotes, and invoices with online payments. Jobber says it can auto-draft quotes from new requests, and its AI Voice feature lets you create quotes, update schedules, and send messages by speaking to the app in the field. Its AI Receptionist answers calls and texts 24/7 and can book jobs into your calendar; it’s a US$29/mo add-on, and it’s included on the Plus plan. Core is US$49 a month with no commitment, or US$29 a month billed yearly, for 1 user. There’s a 14-day free trial with no credit card.

Watch out. Features like job costing and automatic quote follow-ups are on higher plans, not Core. Each extra user is US$29 a month.

2. Housecall Pro: best for price books and dispatch

Why it stands out. The Basic plan includes online booking, scheduling and dispatch, estimates and invoicing, a price book, job costing, and review tools. Every plan includes iOS and Android apps and what Housecall Pro calls AI team members, and its CSR AI service answers calls and chats day or night. Basic is US$59 a month billed yearly. There’s a 14-day free trial of the top plan, with no credit card.

Watch out. The pricing page doesn’t show CSR AI’s price, so check it before you count on it. Route planning starts on Essentials, and the top plan charges US$35 a month for each user past 8.

3. Upfirst: best for answering calls on the job

Why it stands out. Upfirst answers your calls 24/7, or only after hours or when you’re busy, and texts or emails you a summary when each call ends. It can book into Google, Outlook, Calendly, and other calendars, or text a caller a link mid-call. You can forward your current number, so you don’t have to change it. Starter is US$24.95 a month for 30 calls, or US$20 a month billed yearly, with a 14-day free trial.

Watch out. Past 30 calls, Starter charges US$1.50 a call, so a busy season can push your bill up. It answers calls only; it doesn’t do quotes or scheduling for your crew.
